In all the years I've been on Maui, (and I've been here for 32 years), nothing has ever come close to the experience I had flying in Dwight's ultra light. I didn't expect this. I was surprised because I've been in small planes and helicopters over the island before. But there is a huge difference between those experiences and flying the ultra light. It's like the difference between a sedan and a motorcycle. There is no glass between you and the air. It's a naked-eye experience. Beneath my boots was 6000 feet of airspace to the valley floor below. The equipment is new and full of safety features. The air on the day we flew was gentle and warm. The entire time I was in the air, I had the distinct feeling that no one except these ultra light people had ever really seen Maui as it truly is, unfiltered by glass, connected to reality, literally flying through the breeze itself. I kept thinking, I could really get into this... if I only had room for a runway. - Curtis Wilson Cost, Artist and Gallery Owner, Maui, www.costgallery.com "Although I have vertigo at times, that sensation never occurred...the feeling of freedom and the quiet was amazing. It was like my childhood dreams of being able to fly simply by spreading my arms and taking the leap. It's the perfect vantage point to grasp the big beautiful picture of the island." - Peter Farrar, Advertising Executive, New York, www.farrarandfarrar.com |
